Poem by Dan Scranton: Acceptance

November 1, 2004Just wanted to share a poem by my friend Dan Scranton: Acceptance

acceptance

i accept
it all
as it is

except
myself

how could i?
what then?
how would
i grow?
what would
i do with my
idle mind?
as it picks
things apart
compares
seeks to fix…

but wait
i accept
my mind
as it is
it got me here
it moves my
fingers
across
the keyboard

i accept
it all
even you
with your
many, many
shortcomings
how could i
list them all?
let me see…

but wait
without you
life would
be boring
to accept you
is to accept me
no one to
compare me to…

but wait
comparing
is not accepting
you are you
i am i
we are perfect
as we are
so i accept
you too!

i accept all
conditions
although i’d like
to change a few
i would
like war
and famine
and hate…

but wait
they are
perfect
as they are
as they will be
as i create them
for reasons
all my own

acceptance
is a daily task
as it liberates
the mind
allows it all
to flow
effortlessly
and rests
right next to
my bliss
